The endoscopy suite

The endoscopy suite is a state-of-the-art facility using the latest HD- video endoscopy equipment . We have facilities for relatives to accompany patients, and although we can accommodate children, we do not encourage this, and children cannot of course enter theatre.

We use Midazolam for intravenous sedation, and pulse oximetry monitoring for all patients, with oxygen available. Most patients tolerate the procedure without sedation - currently the ration is 3:1 without and with sedation respectively.

Patients are given individual times and walk into the endoscopy room (unlike hospital practice where patients are usually given a bed and trolleyed into theatre, causing a much longer stay).

After the procedure the clinician discusses the result, instructions are given by the nurse regarding aftercare, and patients are allowed to leave after taking a drink - the total stay is about 30-45 mins unsedated, and more than an hour if sedated.
